The WBC named 2025 the year of Africa. to commemorate all the history, achievements, magnificence and splendor of African boxing.

WBC Life President Don Jose Sulaiman was elected in 1975 in Tunisia.

South Africa was suspended from the WBC because of oppression under the apartheid regime. This was in support of the struggle to liberate Africa led by Nelson Mandela.

In 1988, Mandela invited the WBC to hold its annual Convention in Johannesburg.
