Kevin Lerena retains WBC world bridger title with third round KO
Kevin “KO Kid” Lerena lived up to his nickname, retaining the WBC bridgerweight championship by knocking out Serhiy “Kremen” Radchenko in round three, at the Sunbet Arena, Pretoria, South Africa.
The fight was totally dominated by the South African, who demonstrated crowd pleasing power. He controlled the first round with his ramrod jab but the heavier blows would come in the second round.
With a left hook, Lerena drove his opponent to the ropes and another left hook sent him to the canvas. Radchenko got up only to receive more punishment from the “KO Kid” but bravely managed to survive the round.
For the third and final round, Lerena met him with a powerful combination of punches and when Radchenko landed on his knees, his corner decided that enough was enought and threw in the towel.
Kevin Lerena, who is now 31-3 15 KOs and still WBC bridgerweight champion, challenged Fabio Wardley in the post-fight interview.
This fight starts Africa’s Year of Boxing so named by the WBC.
