Jose Sulaiman who presided the WBC for 38 years until his passing in 2014 was responsible for all the major changes introduced by the WBC to make boxing better and safer.
Mr. Sulaiman had a passion to protect boxers, he fought against apartheid and any kind of discrimination and abuse of power and was recognized by the United Nations. He was saddened to see fighters who once were national and world heroes, ended up living in poverty and forgotten by the world. His dream of creating a fund to assist boxers in need became a reality in 2012 when Jean Claude Biver and Hublot partnered with the WBC and together raised $1 million dollars through the auction of luxury Hublot watches, unique pieces inspired in the greatest legendary champions.
The Jose Sulaiman Boxers Fund is independently administered by the Nevada Community Foundation and has awarded more than $1.5 million dollars to fighters around the world who have fallen in hard times.
The safety of the sport of boxing and the protection of its contestants around the world has been carried on and forward by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, Jose Sulaiman’s son, elected unanimously to preside over the WBC as of 2014.
